Where the youth of any community learned from the Masters, and respected Elders would
teach. Those days, a “Group” philosophy was the norm. People shared with the
community willingly.
As time went on – with increasingly rapidity during and after the age of industrialization – a
change developed and took hold – individualism, the belief that society exists for the
benefit of individual people, who must not be constrained by government interventions or
made subordinate to collective interests. We see all around that which selfishness and greed
and government neglect and corruption have taken us as a world. Even if not for any
intended goodwill, most agree now that “sharing the wealth” is good business.
So – do we concentrate on how miserable we have become? Or do we look forward and
seriously focus – not simply at the job at hand – but on the manner in which each task is
performed? At our School, we focus on the manner of each task completed - with
deliberate joy and pride.
Once graduated from the School, How To Make Boots From Your Garage, members of the
Association established by ORA, will form a support network, where solutions are shared
and a means of communal production is established. Standards are universally high, as all
will have been certified in the Production Methods of ORA.
In other words, we return to “Old School” attitudes; thinking as a cooperative community.
We’d like to bring the footwear industry back to MADE IN AMERICA.
